With profound grief and deep sorrow, we regret to info the sad demise of the First Centenarian Officer of 11 GR, Lt Col RR Kanwar,Veteran, f/o Veteran Col Nilesh Kunwar, on 14 Feb 2020 in New York (USA) after a brief illness at the age of 102 years.
Born in 1918, IC-7255 Lt Col RR Kanwar was commissioned into 2/16 Punjab Regiment in 1942. After the partition of India in 1947, he joined 9 Dogra. Later, in Jun 1954, he was transferred to 11 GR and posted to 3/11 GR. He retired in 1969. Lt Col RR Kanwar was a fine Regimental Officer, a thorough professional and a good human being who had endeared himself to all ranks of THE THIRD. In 1994, he moved to USA and settled down in New York with his daughter. His Regimental spirit can be gauged from the fact that despite his advanced age, he came all the way from USA to attend the Diamond Jubilee of the Regiment. Again, on being honoured by the Regt in USA, for becoming the First Centenarian of the Regiment on 3 Dec 2018, he sent a video recorded message thanking the COR & all members of the Kiranti Fraternity and wishing them success in years ahead! The void created due to the demise of Veteran Lt Col RR Kanwar would be difficult to fill and the Regiment will miss him.
On behalf of Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C Eastern Comd, President Gorkha Bde and Col 11 GR & Sikkim Scouts and all ranks of the Regiment, we pray to Durga Mata to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
