With profound grief and deep sorrow, we regret to inform the sad demise of Col  J P Joshi ( 80 yrs) at his residence in Dehradun on 06 May 2021 due to Covid-19.

Commissioned in 1967 in 6/11 GR,   he had seen action in 1971 Indo-Pak war where he had participated in the battle of Balnoi (Poonch) J & K. His accurate fire as Mortar Platoon Commander played a key role in re- capturing Daruchian Post and inflicted heavy Casualties on the enemy. Earlier, as an OR, he had taken part in OP Vijay-Liberation of Goa (1961) and Indo-China War (1962).


He Commanded 6/11 GR from 1987 to 1991 in Bakloh ( HP) and Nagaland. He has the rare distinction of being the first officer to have been Commissioned in 6/11 GR and then Commanded the Battalion. He retired from service in 1994.

On behalf of Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM,ADC, GOC-in-C Eastern Comd, President Gorkha Bde and Col 11 GR & Sikkim Scouts and all ranks of the Regiment, we pray to Durga Mata to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
